Seminar für ABWL, Supply Chain Management und Produktion
Welcome to the Department for Supply Chain Management and ProductionThe Department of Supply Chain Management & Production (SCMP) - lead by Prof. Dr. Tempelmeier - is one of 17 business management departments of the University of Colognes economics and social sciences faculty. The SCMPs scientists deal with problems in the fields of production and logistics in their research as well as in their academic teaching. The work is mainly about assisting the planning in operational practice by scientific sound methods and developing rationalising potentials which are quantitatively provable. We gained experiences in numerous practical projects and are convinced that it is necessary to closely reconcile with modern methods of the quantitative business administration, OR, statistics and information technology when solving real-life problems. That means you need more than just developing planning methods, you need to offer the user an easily usable software. Practical projects have already successfully been completed in the automobile and automobile components supplying industries, in mechanical engineering and mechanical engineering supplying industries, food and semi-luxury industry, transport industry as well as chemical industry. The SCMP is located in the WISO-Area at the Universitätsstraße between Albertus-Magnus-Platz and Bachemer Straße. Contact
Our fields of workFlexible production systems (FPS)Flexible production systems make it possible to work on a group of similar objects with low setup times, short makespan and small stock on hand. In order to fully exhaust the economic advantages of these systems, efficient planning for the configuration and operation is necessary. We assist you, e.g., in dimensioning the buffer capacity in flexible flow production systems or configuring flexible production systems. The Windows-software-systems "FMSEval" and "FlowEval", both developed at the SCMP and used in industry are available. Production planning and control (PPC)MRP (Material Requirements Planning) means planning and control of all activities in the production area. Todays MRP systems have a lot of conceptional deficits and often only handle the information processing. A planning does normally not take place. Our procedure of production segmentation and of decentralised planning reduces the complexity of the planning problems. Our hierarchic and resource-constrained planning concept as well as individual lotsizing and scheduling algorithms ensure reliable production plans for different production segments. Inventory managementStocks are a basic element in the supply chain. We assist you in choosing a suitable inventory policy and in defining its parameters. So you achieve the minimisation of your capital lockup costs with the assumed inventory service level of your warehouse. Warehouse locationThe aim of the warehouse location is to minimise the costs of location specific transport, inventory and production. By using quantitative methods we reduce the amount of locational alternatives of this complex problems to an easily comprehensible degree and assist you in preparing the final decision.
